T&BY Testimonial

I’m sure that most regular contributors to the forum will acknowledge that I am probably the most objective observer of premiership club rugby.
It is this perspective that has allowed me to predict the upward trajectory of Exeter Chiefs and the declining trajectory of Leicester Tigers.
This in no way diminishes my respect and admiration for the extraordinary achievements of Tigers over the last two decades or more.
I like to believe that my ‘hard love’ in identifying some of Tigers recent failings, has been instrumental in producing some of the clear improvement in the last few outings for the club.
Anyway, bolleaux apart, I am genuinely delighted to have been asked to sit on the committee for Tom and Ben Youngs testimonial year.
The testimonial launch took place earlier this week and was attended by at least one other stalwart of the DTRR community, as evidenced below.
It is now my role to help Tom and Ben with the testimonial event. As you would expect they are genuinely nice blokes. Regardless of rugby views, preferences and loyalties, they have been extraordinarily successful in chucking a rugby ball around.
The main event of their testimonial year takes place on Wednesday 29th April 2020 at the Great Room, Grosvenor House Hotel, Park lane, London.
Off the pitch, this will undoubtedly be the biggest rugby event of the year. Pretty much the whole of the England squad have already committed to attend. Most of the Sarries squad and Quins squad have also signed up. Numerous other rugby legends have agreed to support the event.
I have a degree of discretion in arranging tables and this includes the distribution of name players.
It isn’t a cheap event, but it is certainly the premier rugby dinner of 2020.
I would like to arrange at least one and preferably two DTRR tables. I appreciate that there are long term supporters of the forum who are more and less able to stump up the readies, but know also that there may be others who need that to consider a lesser consideration.
If you would like to organise a table in your own right that would be great. The details are here.
If not and you would just like to come along let me know. I can pretty much guarantee that you will be sitting with a senior player from club or country. If you would like to come but can’t hack the premium, just let me know.
Naturally other halves and partners are very welcome and invitations will almost certainly guarantee a shag.
It would be great to fix up at least one DTRR table but I’m counting on two.
Pull your fingers out DTTR. The beneficiaries are the charities and one of them at least is very dear to our hearts.
The proceeds will be shared between Bloodwise, which is the charity very close to Tom’s heart, following Tiffaney’s extraordinary battle and success with Leukimia, and The Motor Neurone Disease Association, which Ben has chosen following the tragic impact of the disease on a close family member.
I’m going to make this a success. I’d like to think that you mad, sad and bad rugby refugeess will help.
